Every Inch a Gentleman

Portraying a blue-blooded South Carolina planter dressed in high colonial fashion, Storyteller Tim Lowry tells stories passed around fashionable parlors, dining tables, and hearth fires on the eve of the American Revolution. He explores folk songs, social customs, fancy dress, folk tales, and the Gullah language, all culminating in the Battle of Fort Sullivan which became a legend even before the cannons had cooled. This show had its world premiere at the 41st National Storytelling Festival and has been in popular demand ever since.

Specs: designed for adults but appropriate for 10 and up, playing time 60-75 minutes

A Colonial Fair

In this interactive program, Storyteller Tim Lowry shares folk songs and stories enjoyed by boys and girls from the year 1776 as he recounts acts of heroism from some of America’s smallest patriots. Additionally, he brings a hands-on museum in which children can play with colonial toys, write with quill pens, learn to use a simple printing press, stitch a sampler, engage in some tavern games, roll wooden hoops, toss some graces, and step a country dance!

Specs: ages 5 and up, playing time 45-90 minutes depending on space and time allotted, a large play space (indoor or outdoor) required

Food, Fashion, & Frivolity

Beginning with stories of the legendary hostess and South Carolina patriot Rebecca Motte, Storyteller Tim Lowry takes his audience into the colonial dining room to share recipes, social customs, and entertainments enjoyed by ladies and gentlemen during the American Revolution. Participants are invited to puzzle out a riddle, play traditional parlor games, learn the art of social intrigue, and even step a country dance.

Peter Parker's Pants

Storyteller Tim Lowry is working on a children's picture book celebrating the American Revolution. A particular British Commodore standing on the poop deck of his battleship mooned Colonel Moultrie's men. Presented with a perfectly positioned target, the South Carolina volunteers took careful aim and Mr. Peter Parker got his pants blown off! Tim is available for author presentations in which he recounts this humorous tale, talks about the book’s progress, and leads participants to compose and perform an original folk song based on a 1776 account of the incident.

Specs: fourth grade is the target audience but appropriate for all upper elementary, playing time 60-75 minutes, wooden spoons and other folk instruments provided
